Galligan steps down as Cavan senior team manager

Cavan senior football team manager Raymond Galligan has stepped down from the role.

Cavan will be on the look-out for a third manager in as many years following Galligan’s surprising decision to step away after two seasons at the helm. The Lacken Celtic clubman led Cavan to third and fourth-place finishes in Division 2 of the National League, having replaced Mickey Graham in September, 2023.

Galligan, an All-Star and Ulster SFC-winning captain as a player, stepped down citing work commitments this morning.

“Unfortunately I have had to step away due to work commitments," Galligan told the Anglo-Celt.

"I manage a very busy day centre in Rathfarnham for adults with intellectual disabilities and it has just reached a point where I can't commit myself fully to both roles, especially with all of the travelling involved and family commitments with two small children.

“I want to thank the players, the back room and the county board for all of their efforts and wish them all the very best of luck going forward.”

Cavan enjoyed excellent wins over Monaghan and Mayo in successive championships, with Galligan’s side exclusively facing Division 1 opposition in the championship in 2024 and 2025.
