€70K in grants for local groups

SSE Renewables has announced a second round of funding for the East Cavan Monaghan Community Benefit Fund, giving community groups the opportunity to apply from this Monday, August 4, 2025.

This round of funding invites applications from projects that aim to create long-term, positive change in local communities.

The fund supports not-for-profit organisations, community groups, and social enterprises located within 20 kilometres of SSE Renewables’ Bindoo and Gartnaneane Wind Farms in County Cavan and Mullananalt Wind Farm in County Monaghan. Applications from outside this area will also be considered if they clearly benefit communities within the area of benefit.

SSE Renewables generates renewable energy, focusing on wind, hydro, solar and battery storage.

This second call for applications to the community benefit fund places a strong focus on projects, which align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to build a greener and fairer future for everyone. This includes initiatives that cut carbon emissions, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable living. Projects that enhance community wellbeing – such as creating inclusive spaces, offering education and training opportunities, or developing tourism-focused social enterprises – are also encouraged.

Urging community groups with bold ideas to come forward and apply, Jacqueline Durnin, Community Investment Manager at SSE Renewables, said: “SSE Renewables is proud to have invested over €2.4M in local communities across Cavan and Monaghan since 2001. With this second round of funding there is over €70,000 available. So, we’re especially keen to support large-scale, high-impact projects that will deliver lasting benefits. If your community group is ready to take the next exciting step in its journey, I urge you to apply.”

Applications close on Friday, October 17, 2025.
