Defendant caused trouble outside nightclub
A MAN, who caused trouble outside a Castleblayney night club and who also admitted some minor theft offences, was given a backdated prison sentence when the matters were dealt with at a recent sitting of Monaghan District Court.
Arturas Skalisius of Rosevale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, admitted that he stole a bottle of beer, worth €4.99, from SuperValu in Castleblayney on June 23 2025, as well as a can of beer, valued at €1.54, from the Lidl in Castleblayney on February 2, 2023.
The 32-year-old, who was serving a prison sentence on separate matters and appeared by video link. He also accepted that he was intoxicated at West Street, Castleblayney, on May 26, 2025; and that he engaged in threatening or abusive behaviour at Onomy, Castleblayney, two days earlier on May 24.
On that occasion, gardai had been called when the defendant was acting aggressively outside a nightclub after he was refused entry. He was intoxicated and being restrained by bouncers when officers arrived, Sergeant Lisa McEntee told the court.
With 12 similar previous convictions, Judge Raymond Finnegan imposed two months’ imprisonment for the nightclub incident but backdated this to June 27 when Mr Skalisius was taken into custody.
Judge Finnegan said the other counts, including the thefts, were being taken into consideration on that basis, given their minor nature.
