€1,327 for Water Heritage Day Events across the county
Some €1,327 has been allocated to events in Cavan that promote the protection and restoration of water quality.
The Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO), working on behalf of Ireland’s 31 local authorities, has awarded over €30,000 nationally for 82 events across 24 counties under the ‘Water Heritage Day Grants Scheme 2025’.
It's ahead of Water Heritage Day this Sunday, August 24, which celebrates water throughout Ireland, its history and heritage and our connections with it.
Projects approved for funding in Cavan this year include:
Belturbet Community Development - Erne River Festival (€375)
Friends Of Castle Lake - To create awareness for the swift population in Bailieborough (€152)
Blacklion TidyTowns - Field trip on Lough MacNean followed by textile workshop (€400)
Belturbet Row Boat Club - Heritage Week Rowing Event (€400).
Minister of State with responsibility for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan, confirmed the funding. "This grants scheme is an investment in the protection and restoration of good water quality nationwide. It allows people to create connections with their rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands and coastal waters in new and innovative ways.”
