Tributes paid to young man killed in workplace accident

Second workplace accident to happen in town in past week

The young man who lost his life following a workplace accident in Kingscourt yesterday has been named as Jack McIlroy (25) from Nobber, Co Meath.

Jack lost his life suddenly following an incident at Paramount Doors Ireland, a leading manufacturer and installer of roller shutter doors and steel personnel doors for the domestic, industrial and commercial markets.

Tributes have been paid to the young man who was secretary of the Electro Celtic soccer club.

In a statement the club expressed "extreme sadness" at hearing the tragic news.

"Jack was only 25 years old and took on the role of Secretary at his club last year due to his passion for soccer and brought a level of professionalism to the role in his time as club secretary, and took on many roles within his club.

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with his parents Alan and Deirdre, his family, friends, team mates and all at Electro Celtic football club during this sad time.

"May he rest in peace," it read.

As a mark of respect, all soccer clubs are being asked to observe a minute's applause in memory of Jack at all NEFL Fixtures this week.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the accident shortly before midday yesterday (Wednesday), August 27, where Jack had suffered an injury.

He was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment, but subsequently passed away there as a result of his injuries.

The Health and Safety Authority was notified of the incident, confirming to The Anglo-Celt that it has launched an investigation into the circumstances.
