Teenager injured after fireworks thrown at a house
The injuring of a teenager at the weekend, after a firework was thrown at a house, has served as a timely reminder of the dangers posed by fireworks ahead of Halloween.
The teenager in question received minor injuries after a spent firework unexpectedly reignited.
The incident occurred in the Derry area of Shercock last Saturday night, September 6, between 10:30pm and 11pm after eggs and fireworks were launched at a private residential property.
In the aftermath, a 17-year-old boy went to pick up what appeared to be a spent firework from the scene.
However, it unexpectedly reignited and, while it did not fully explode in the teenager’s hand, he suffered what gardaí have described as “non-life-threatening injuries”. Gardaí have since launched a full investigation into the matter.
Anyone with information is urged to contact their local garda station. A garda spokesperson told the Celt that investigations are “ongoing” at this time.
