Man remanded in custody in relation to series of thefts from business premises in the region

A 32-year-old Mayo man, arrested following a high-speed chase involving armed gardaí across counties Meath and Westmeath, has been remanded in custody in relation to a spate of thefts from businesses across Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and Louth.

Luke Wall with an address at 43 Cois na hAbhainn, Bonninconlon, Ballina, Co Mayo, appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan at Cavan District Court this morning.

He was charged with 12 counts of being a trespasser on various commercial premises and businesses and committing theft therein. The dates of the offences ranged from August 5, 2025 to September 9 - with five premises targeted on September 9 alone.

These charges are contrary to section 12(1)(b) and 3 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act.

The businesses hit include Kingscourt Community Centre in Cavan; an apartment at Mace Staholmog in Co Meath; Interbev Distribution Ireland in Castleblayney, McCaughey's Filling Station in Broomfield, Fee & Associates Dental Practice in Carrickmacross; Drummond Lodge, Convent Lands, Carrickmacross; Renuka Beauty Rooms in Carrickmacross and Caim Skin & Wellness, Castleblayney and Gerflor in Carrickmacross Co Monaghan; Jocelyn Bistro, Dundalk, Quinn's Funeral Home in Dundalk and the Carlingford Arms in Co Louth.

Mr Wall is further charged with driving in a manner, which created a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another on the N52 at Cloughan, Mullingar, on September 9. This is contrary to section 13 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997.

He is also accused of trespass in a manner likely to cause fear in another person at the M Hotel in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, on September 9.

Mr Wall was arrested on Wednesday, September 10, by investigating gardaí.

There was no application for bail at Cavan District Court this morning.

However, solicitor Róisín Courtney asked that the judge direct Mr Wall receive medical attention while in custody for serious addiction issues.

Judge Finnegan remanded him in custody to appear via video link at next Wednesday's sitting of Monaghan District Court on September 17. The judge also directed he receive appropriate medical attention in the interim.
