Efforts of Residents' Associations recognised

Residents’ Associations across County Cavan were recognised for their efforts in at a special ceremony on Monday, September 15, at Courthouse, Cavan.

The Cavan County Council Estate Recognition Ceremony acknowledges the volunteerism and community spirit of those groups who maintain public spaces and brighten up their areas by cleaning, planting and maintaining their estates.

Officially opening the ceremony, Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, hailed those in attendance for their exemplary dedication to improving their locality.

“This day is your day, an opportunity for us as councillors and council staff to show our appreciation of your efforts. It can be easy to just look after your own home, but you see the bigger picture, and go the extra mile to take care of the place you live in. Your community mindedness doesn’t go unnoticed, and it is greatly appreciated.”

Chief Executive Eoin Doyle echoed those sentiments, congratulati ng those present on their dedication to their community and also highlighting the role of Cavan County Council’s Tenant Liaison Officers and, indeed, the entire Housing team, who, he noted, were exceptionally dedicated and among the most impactful of local authority staff in terms of the positive effect their work had on people’s daily lives.

The winners of the ‘Best Kept Small Estates’ awards were Cannon’s Hill, Killeshandra and Drumman, Cootehil; while Pairc an Dúin, Cavan and Drumbannon, Bailieborough scooped the awards for ‘Best Kept Large Estates’. The Steeples, Cavan Town was named as this year’s ‘Climate Change Champion’.

Four estates, Tycusker, Arva; Ard Dún, Kingscourt; Ó Raghallaigh Park, Cavan; and Seanghearraí, Ballinagh were also presente d with the ‘Shane Donnelly Recognition Award’. This award recognises those who have made an exceptional effort to improve the appearance of their estate over the past year. The award also honours the legacy of Shane Donnelly, a well-respected and fondly remembered former staff member of Cavan Town Council, who was instrumental in setting up the original Cavan Town Estate Awards and who sadly passed away in 2013.

Winners of the ‘Blooming Beautiful’ awards were Cloneary, Templeport; Fairgreen Upper, Belturbet, and Fairview Terrace, Owen Roe Terrace, St Patrick’s Terrace, and St Martin’s Estate, all of Cavan Town.

Community Participation Awards were presented to Highfield Road, Cavan; Ashgrove, Ballinagh; St Mary’s Terrace, Belt urbet; Drumnaveil, Cootehill; and Killymooney Drive Cavan.

Winners of this year’s ‘Litter Free’ awards were Coolkill Hills, Kilnaleck; Cluain Dara, Kingscourt; Cois Annalee, Butlersbridge; Rosehill, Mullagh; Black Ridge, Ballyconnell; Railway Road, Killeshandra; Doonbeg, Ballyconnell; Cabra View, Kingscourt; Griffith Park, Cootehill; Cloverhill, Bailieborough; St Phelim’s Place; Creighan Manor; Ardkeen Cavan, and The Gallops, all Cavan Town.
