Galetech announce 65 new jobs
The Stradone company already employs over 150 people
GALETECH, the Stradone renewable energy business, has announced the creation of 65 new jobs.
The company, which, has been operating since 2000, already employs 150 people around 80 of whom come from Co Cavan.
The jobs announcement was made at a special event in Galetech’s Stradone headquarters yesterday (Thursday).
Guest speakers included Cavan-Monaghan TD Niamh Smyth and Manager in Food, Sustainability and Climate Change at Enterprise Ireland, Mark Christal.
Speaking to the ‘Celt after the official announcement, Galetech CEO, Darren Sherry, said the new jobs will be in mechatronics, engineering and “everything to do with renewables.”
“The renewables pool in Ireland, like some other sectors, is relatively small so we want to recruit people from other sectors and re-train them,” he explained, “We would hire people from town planning, from environmental backgrounds, project management,” he said.
Deputy Niamh Smyth, who is also Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with special responsibility for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation was just off a plane from the G20 Summit in Japan when she attended the event at the Galetech premises.
She told the ’Celt she was delighted to be in Cavan to announce 65 new jobs in a local company.
“I would like to congratulate Darren and his dad, Donald before him, as visionaries who knew that green energy was the future back then and still is.
“It is companies like Galetech which will help this country reach its target to reduce emissions by 51% by 2030 and it delights me to come here today in my home county to announce this expansion to their workforce.”
