Strictly fundraiser for Cuan

Eighteen couples in Cavan are getting their dancing shoes ready for Strictly Come Dancing for Cuan Cancer Support next Sunday evening.

Over the past few weeks, local couples have taken to empty functions rooms, sittings rooms and halls to perfect their techniques, all in aid of Cuan.

As well as practicing their moves, each of them are leading their own fundraising campaign. With under two weeks left to go, some couples had nearly reached the €10,000 mark at the time of going to print on Tuesday morning.

"People are just so generous and so good," said Angela Callaghan, who is the chairperson of Cuan Fundraising Committee.

Some of the dancers have availed of Cuan's services for themselves or a family member or friend.

"It's a charity-based foundation so most people using the charity like to give back when they're through their treatments," Angela explained.

Organisers are encouraging people to go along and support the local dancers and the incredible work that Cuan does in the community.

Their services consist of counselling, complementary therapies, play therapy, children’s programmes, art therapy, dog therapy, wellness and physical activity, mindfulness, walking, support groups, Mastectomy service, MLD, nutritional advice, financial advice, drop-in and transportation services.

"Cuan offers various treatments for people going through cancer and also offers counselling for the family members.

"It's not only the person going through the cancer diagnosis, it supports the families also.

"We will have a great night of entertainment, come and support our dancers for a great cause," Angela encouraged.

The event will take place in the Hotel Kilmore on Sunday, October 26, with doors opening at 7pm and starting at 8pm.

Tickets cost €25 and can be purchased online at www.events54.com/cuan or by contacting Angela on 086-3868549.
