Renewed appeal for Justice in Paul Quinn murder

Gardaí and the PSNI remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice.

Monday, October 20, marks 18 years since the brutal murder of 21-year-old Paul Quinn in a violent attack that shocked communities on both sides of the border.

Paul was murdered in the Tullyvanus area on Saturday, 20th October, 2007, after being lured to a shed by a number of men and the investigation into his murder is ongoing.

The assault was sustained and Paul died from his injuries.

Despite the passage of time, his family, An Garda Síochána, and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice.

Since the investigation began, 23 individuals have been arrested- 14 by Gardaí in the Republic and 9 by the PSNI in Northern Ireland.

In March 2020, a thematic review of the case was carried out by the Garda Serious Crime Review Team. Cooperation between Gardaí and the PSNI continues, as both services remain committed to solving this crime.

In this latest appeal Gardaí still believe that someone, somewhere, still holds vital information that could finally bring answers and provide justice for the Quinn family.

“We firmly believe that the answers to this murder or the evidence that we require to progress this investigation lies within the community,” said Superintendent Ronan Carey reflecting on the significance of the anniversary. “That relationships change or the nature of them, and that people may be in a position now to provide answers to us or come forward to us and give us information that they may not have been previously in a position to do so. We want to provide the answers, and we want to provide justice to Paul, to his mother, Breege, and his father, Stephen.”

Throughout the years, the Quinn family has remained in close contact with Gardaí and is kept informed of any developments.

Paul’s mother, Breege, continues to plead with those who may know the truth:

“The Gardaí are still investigating the murder. Please go and give us justice. It's no easier today than it was that evening that he died.”
