Theatrical double bill at the Corn Mill

The Corn Mill Theatre in Carrigallen will host a compelling evening of live performance as two local theatre groups- Hoodwink Theatre Productions and Millrace Drama Group- take to the stage with back-to-back presentations of original one-act plays in preparation for the All-Ireland Drama Festival.

Opening the night is Wildling, an original play written by Elaine Birkett and directed by Phil Gilbride.

Set in Ireland in 1981, the play gradually reveals the intertwined stories of characters whose lives were shaped by the societal expectations of the 1950s and 60s. In a quiet lakeside setting under moonlight, 'Wildling' explores memory, loss, friendship, and the resilience needed to move forward.

Elaine describes how the landscape around her helped bring the story to life.

“Along the way there many rushes, there are also fabulous reeds along the river that drift and move with the wind. The more I noticed them the more they evoked images of the main character for me,” she explained. “The story evolves over time.”

Following 'Wildling', Millrace Drama Group will perform 'Digging', a darkly comic one-act by James McKenna, exploring the fallout of a family funeral where long-held tensions begin to surface.

The Corn Mill double bill begins at 8pm, and tickets are priced at €18, available through www.cornmilltheatre.com

Audiences will have a second chance to catch both 'Wildling' and 'Digging' on Sunday, October 26 at Ramor Theatre. Both shows are supported by Cavan Arts Office.
