Suspected bird flu case in Lisnaskea
NI's Minister for Agriculture says poultry farmers "should be very concerned"
A SUSPECTED case of bird flu has been confirmed at a premises just over the Cavan border in Lisnaskea.
The North’s Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) confirmed the latest suspected case yesterday (Monday).
Disease control measures have been initiated at the Co Fermanagh site to reduce the risk of transmission of the disease including the creation of a Temporary Control Zone (TCZ) around the premises.
It follows the discovery of a suspected case of avian influenza in a poultry flock in Pomeroy, Co Tyrone on the same day.
It’s expected that 12,000 chickens at the commercial premises in Co Tyrone are to be humanely culled.
The North’s Minister for Agriculture, meanwhile, has issued a warning to poultry farmers saying that the likes of turkey farmers “should be very concerned” as migratory birds, which help spread the deadly disease, return to winter in Ireland at this time.
