Frightful find at Cavan graveyard
Gardaí on patrol in Cavan Town this Halloween night found themselves in the middle of some truly eerie goings-on when their attentions were drawn to a vehicle parked suspiciously at Cullies graveyard.
When officers crept closer to investigate, what they uncovered was no trick- but a ghastly stash of cannabis worth nearly €1,000.
The driver, a man in his 20s and understood to be known to gardaí, was allegedly caught red-handed, busily repacking the drugs for distribution when the long arm of the law came swooping from the shadows.
He was promptly arrested- a haunting end to his Halloween night.
The cannabis has been sent for analysis.
It is one of several seizures by gardaí in recent weeks after members of the regional drugs unit searched house in Belturbet under warrant on the morning of October 25.
A quantity of cannabis was recovered, and a spokesperson confirmed: “Investigations are ongoing.”
Members of the Cavan Drugs Unit, this time assisted by Gardaí from the Cavan Community Engagement Area, meanwhile searched a property in the Bawnboy area the following day, October 26, where cannabis herb and plants, with a total estimated street value of approximately €19,000 was seized.
The Celt understands that the cannabis was being grown in a converted attic space.
Two people - a male in his 40s and a female aged in her late teens - were both arrested at the scene and detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
They were charged and subsequently released to appear before Cavan District Court next month.
Meanwhile, a man arrested following the seizure of several thousand tablets in Cavan late last year, has now been charged with drug dealing. He will appear before the courts at a later date.
