General Care Award for Breege
A Cavan nursing home professional has been recognised among Ireland's best at the NHI Care Awards 2025, the leading national celebration of excellence in nursing home care.
Breege Lyons, from Esker Lodge Nursing Home, Cathedral Road, Cavan, received the General Care Award, sponsored by Phoenix STS. She was honoured at a gala ceremony on Thursday, November 6, in the Round Room at Dublin's Mansion House.
The event was attended by Minister for Older People Kieran O’Donnell TD, who also presented an award on the night.
The ceremony celebrated exceptional care delivered daily in nursing homes nationwide.
Over 250 nominations were received, with 34 finalists selected by an independent judging panel representing nursing, academia, and the wider health and social care sector.
“Breege reflects the professionalism, warmth, and commitment that define nursing home care in Ireland. Her recognition highlights the deep sense of purpose that drives care teams to support residents in living fulfilling, meaningful lives," praised Tadhg Daly, CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland.
He congratulated all nominees and thanked Minister O’Donnell and sponsors, particularly Homecare Medical, long-standing partner and key supporter of the awards.
Now in their 16th year, the NHI Care Awards, held in association with Homecare Medical, honour the dedication, compassion, and professionalism shown by individuals and teams caring for more than 27,000 residents across Ireland's nursing home/
