Heavy and persistent rain today, windy too

Heavy rain will affect Ireland today (Friday) associated with Storm Claudia.

In all 13 counties will come under various rain and wind warnings at different times over the next 24 hours or so. The south east will be the hardest hit.

A windy day nationwide today, wet too across Munster and Leinster, with widespread rain, becoming heavier through the day, particularly in the south and east, with flooding expected in places. Much drier across Ulster and Connacht with some bright spells further north, and with just some rain and drizzle encroaching onto southern parts. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees in fresh to strong and gusty northeasterly winds, with gales on eastern coasts.

Largely dry tonight with clear spells in Ulster and north Connacht, but cloudy and wet across other areas with further outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Quite windy with a fresh to strong northeasterly wind and lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Saturday will start off with patchy rain and drizzle moving northwards over the country, as showers feed into the south. The rain will eventually ease with some sunny intervals developing with just well scattered showers continuing mainly over the southern half of the country. Rather windy at first tomorrow, with fresh to strong northeasterly winds, but these will ease. Highest temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees.

Staying cloudy overnight on Saturday with isolated light rain or drizzle across the east and south, but dry with clear spells further north. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 9 degrees, coldest under the clearest skies in the north of the country.

Mainly dry on Sunday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with light northerly winds.

Sunday night is expected mostly dry with clear spells, although cloud will increase in the north and west at times, bringing a few light showers. Cold with lowest temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees, in a light northerly wind.

Cloud will gradually extend southeastwards across the country on Monday, bringing scattered outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light westerly winds.

Outbreaks of light rain and drizzle will spread from the northwest on Monday night, easing through the night with some clear spells developing. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.

Tuesday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in a moderate to fresh northwest wind.
