'Really dangerous' hedge in Cootehill

Repairs to a bridge on the Oldbridge road (L2032) are being sought by Cllr Carmel Brady who raised the issue at a recent municipal district meeting.

She referenced two recent incidents at the bridge, which caused “a lot of damage” with “no reference to show that the bridge is narrow.”

“Trees and branches grow in the bridge, on the bridge and through the bridge,” she commented, adding that it “really is dangerous” especially with “no lighting”.

Area Manager Clinton Mulligan clarified that there is a “contractor procured to carry out the work”, which he expects to be “done before Christmas”.

Still on road safety, Cllr Brady also asked the council to cut the overhanging hedges on the Cavan road both below Drumlin Drive entrance and also the hedge between the industrial estate at the fire station to the filling station. On the former, she said the presence of an “eight-foot hedge” that has not been cut for “three years” has become “really dangerous”.

She told those gathered that “people are stepping out on the road” to avoid the hedges, which is especially complicated for parents with pushchairs or those using mobility scooters.

She further pointed out that Cavan County Council owns the industrial estate.

Area Manager Clinton Mulligan informed that Cavan Tree Services is being “engaged” regarding both locations.
