Local library is a lively hub
Througout the day the quiet rustling of paper can be heard. People sit at a table where the daily and local newspapers are displayed. “The Celt is always a popular read,” library assistant Una McGlone smiles.
Bailieborough library is more than just a place for books; it's a lively hub.
Recently, the young readers’ area was revamped. Children like sitting on the colourful soft carpet, bent over a book. The walls are decorated with new sensory toys and there is never a lack of colouring materials.
Arts and crafts workshops for young and old regularly take place in the upstairs gallery room, where local artists show their talent in changing exhibitions.
“We hold several groups who enjoy art and craft sessions, gentle exercise classes that promote both physical and mental wellbeing in a safe environment,” says Una.
A hexagonal shaped working unit with charging points, free wifi and relaxed reading makes for a perfect quiet study area.
“In today's digital age we encourage those who are unfamiliar with IT to come along to our many classes during the year so that adults of all ages can experience and build confidence and essential digital skills using computers, laptops and smart phones,” says Una.
For the library, caring for the environment is just as important as caring for the community.
They work closely with the ‘Friends of Castle Lake’ who are dedicated to preserving nature.
“We have installed swift boxes to our building and we use bat detectors to help identify and monitor our local bat species,” says Una.
So, whether you are looking to learn new skills, explore wildlife, connect with community or a quiet space to read a book, Bailieborgh Library is your one stop shop.
