Appeal for witnesses to fatal bus and car collision

POLICE in the North continue to ask for witnesses to a road traffic collision on the main Derrylin to Enniskillen road, which claimed the lives of two men on Friday.

The collision happened between a Ford Kuga car and a Bus Éireann coach travelling from Dublin to Donegal at the junction of the Derrylin and Tiravally roads at around 7pm.

Emergency services attended the scene along with Bus Éireann personnel, while the PSNI closed the busy road to traffic.

The two male occupants of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

A PSNI statement said there were no reports of any serious injuries to the driver or passengers of the bus.

Bus Éireann confirmed one of their Expressway Route 30 services was involved in the fatal incident.

The 30 route is the main bus service between Cavan and Dublin travelling to and from Donegal via Derrylin.

A statement from the company said: “We are deeply saddened to learn that two occupants of the car have passed away."

Bus Éireann is offering its full support to the relevant authorities as investigations continue.

The road remained closed until the following morning to allow PSNI crash investigators examine the scene. It was re-opened at around 10am.

Chief Inspector Simpson of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said their enquiries are continuing and appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have digital footage, which could assist police in their investigation, to contact them on 101.
