Young mum laid to rest
The young mum, who died tragically after a road traffic accident, was laid to rest on Sunday (December 21) at Stonebridge Presbyterian Church.
Emma Mackarel (37) from Latgallan, Clones, Co Monaghan died in the collision with a lorry on the N2 at Mullaghnee, Annalitten, outside Castleblayney last Thursday morning, December 18.
Ms Mackarel, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
Tributes for the mum of two, who was originally from Enniskillen and who up until recently worked for Callaghan Electrical, were widespread online.
Mullaghy Flute Band in Fermanagh posted the following tribute to their former tutor on Facebook:
"We are all in shock about the terrible news about our former band tutor."
They added that Emma made "vast improvements" to the band during her time with them.
"But she also became a friend of all the members in the band and we all will miss her," they said in a Facebook post.
"We pray for her husband, children and the rest of her family."
Meanwhile the North Fermanagh Young Defenders Flute Band also posted a tribute saying they were "shocked and saddened" to learn of Emma's "untimely" passing.
"Emma was a great asset to our band after we formed, by attending our practices and tutoring our band members to learn to play the flute.
"Emma was a valuable member of the community and will be sorely missed by all who knew her."
Meanwhile, a Monaghan mum left the following words for Emma on rip.ie: "I met Emma on several occasions; a lovely friendly girl with a great smile. My deepest condolences to Andrew, Eva and Alec and all the family.
"You haven’t left my thoughts since hearing of this terrible news. RIP."
Emma Mackarel (née McClean) is deeply regretted and remembered with love by her heartbroken family - husband Andrew, daughter Eva, son Alec, parents John and Linda, sister Donna (Rodney), brother David (Hayley), grandfather Thomas McClean, father and mother-in-law Eric and Betty Mackarel, brother-in-law Alan (Sallyann), sister-in-law Tanya, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and many friends.
