Nearly 1 million bottles of Prosecco imported

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) have been posting a selection of seasonal stats on our social media channels in the run up to Christmas.

They have a Youtube video showcasing these stats, and in case you missed any, here is the full list:

  • Ireland imported €2.1m worth of Prosecco, over 966K bottles, in December 2024, nearly double the value of Champagne imported at €1.4m (about 88K bottles).
  • In October, November, and December 2024, 9.2m people passed through Irish airports.
  • Foreign visitors had 3.9m overnight stays in December 2024, staying on average 9.9 nights.
  • Shout out to the 17K postal and courier workers, as of Census 2022, who will be busy over the festive period.
  • We lit up our homes and businesses with 36 tonnes of Christmas lighting imported in December 2024, valued at approx. €882K.
  • Ireland exported 245 tonnes of fresh Christmas trees in December 2024.
  • In December 2024 Ireland imported €2.1m worth of Christmas items such as baubles/decorations.
  • 1,670 couples got married in December 2024, with Friday being the most popular day to tie the knot.
  • Over €264K worth of electric toy cars and trains were imported in December 2024.
  • Over €1.1m worth of dolls’ prams, pedal cars, and trikes were imported in December 2024.
  • In December 2024, Ireland imported nearly €15m worth of video game consoles.
  • There were 82 babies born on Christmas day in 2024, with 39 girls and 43 boys.
