Garda operation targeting dissident republican activity
As part of an ongoing national security investigation, Gardaí attached to the Serious Crime Functional Area within the Donegal Garda Division arrested a man in his 30s in connection with the operation on January 9.
The arrest was made under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, which allows for the detention of individuals suspected of involvement in offences related to unlawful organisations.
The man is currently being detained at a Garda station in the North Western Region, where he may be held for questioning in accordance with the legislation.
The investigation is being supported by the Garda Special Detective Unit, which has responsibility for matters relating to state security and subversive activity.
Gardaí have confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing and that further updates will be provided as appropriate.
