Lidl to close ahead of rebuild

Lidl’s Cavan store will close this weekend ahead of a major redevelopment that will see the local supermarket rebuilt and significantly expanded.

The closure, from 6pm this Saturday, January 10, is expected to last several months while construction work is carried out.

The existing single-storey discount foodstore, which has a net retail area of approximately 1,165 square metres, will be replaced by a substantially larger store with a gross floor space of 2,560 square metres, incorporating adjoining land.

The plans include a reconfigured site layout with 120 car parking spaces, hard and soft landscaping, retention of the current vehicular access point and an HGV delivery bay.

Additional features will include new signage, a covered trolley bay, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, an ESB sub-station, external lighting, electric vehicle charging points, roof-mounted solar panels, cycle parking, drainage works and other ancillary site works.

The current Cavan outlet is among the company’s first seven stores in Ireland.
