Council welcomes new owners of Hotel Kilmore

Cavan County Council representatives met with the new owners of Hotel Kilmore recently at what is being hailed as a "positive and constructive" introductory meeting aimed at "strengthening future collaboration between the landmark hotel and the wider Cavan community".

The council was represented by Cathaoirleach Cllr John Paul Feeley, Chief Executive Eoin Doyle, Director of Service, Brendan Jennings and Tourism Officer, Joanne Hayes.

Hotel Kilmore is now under the ownership of Matthew O’Callaghan and the O’Callaghan Family Group, who also operate The Gateway Hotel and The Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, as well as The Keadeen Hotel in County Kildare. During the meeting, the council representatives and the new owners discussed potential areas of co-operation and emphasised the hotel’s significant contribution to the county’s social, tourism, and business landscape.

Speaking after the visit, Cllr Feeley welcomed the new owners saying: “Hotel Kilmore has long been a cornerstone of social and community life in County Cavan, and I am very pleased to welcome the new ownership. The hotel has hosted countless celebrations, community gatherings, and important events over the years, and its continued success matters greatly to the people of this county.”

CE, Mr Doyle added: “Hotel Kilmore is not only an important employer in this county but also a key part of our hospitality and tourism offering. Cavan County Council is committed to supporting positive investment in the county, and we look forward to working closely with the new owners to explore areas where we can collaborate, whether that be through local tourism initiatives, community events, or broader economic development.”

New owner Matthew O’Callaghan also expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome, stating “Hotel Kilmore has been part of the social and business fabric of Cavan for decades. We’re honoured to take on this responsibility from the Mealiff family, and we are fully committed to supporting the staff, guests and local community. It is those people that makes the Kilmore so memorable. It’s very much business as usual — every booking, wedding and event remains fully confirmed, and our wonderful team will continue to deliver the warm Irish hospitality that the hotel is known for.”
