Monaghan road fatality named locally

Mr Keenan's death is the first fatality on local roads to date in 2026.

The man who sadly died following a fatal road traffic collision in Monaghan yesterday evening has been named locally.

Adrian Keenan, Fermoyle, Smithborough, Monaghan, was the sole occupant of a car that crashed on the R187 between Monaghan and Rosslea, at Inishammon, Smithborough, on Wednesday, January 28.

Aged in his 30’s, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body was subsequently transferred to the Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan where a post-mortem examination is to take place in due course.

The road where the crash occurred remains closed pending technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí meanwhile are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R187 at Inishammon, Co. Monaghan, on Wednesday, January 28, between 7.15-8.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
