Man faces court after major €150k Cavan drugs bust
Vehicle stopped and house raided in follow up search. Thousands in cash also seized.
A man is due before Monaghan District Court later this morning (Wednesday, February 4) following a major Garda drugs seizure in Cavan worth more than €150,000.
The arrest comes as part of an ongoing Garda crackdown on the alleged sale and supply of illegal drugs in the region. Gardaí attached to the Divisional Drugs Unit intercepted and searched a vehicle in Cavan town on Tuesday, February 3, uncovering a quantity of suspected cannabis.
The operation escalated when Gardaí carried out a follow-up search under warrant at a separate location in the county town. During the raid under warrant, officers seized cannabis with an estimated street value of €112,000, cocaine valued at approximately €56,000, as well as more than €12,000 in cash.
A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were arrested and detained at a Garda station in Cavan overnight. The man has since been formally charged in connection with the investigation and is due to appear in court today.
The woman has been released without charge, and a file is now being prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
All seized substances will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for detailed analysis as investigations continue.
