Hit-and-Run leaves young woman hospitalised and man fighting for his life
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are due to attend the scene; roads closed in both directions overnight.
A female pedestrian has been hospitalised and passenger left “seriously injured” following a hit and run near Cavan Town yesterday evening.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are due to attend the scene between Carrickane and Loreto College on the L1513 at Drumlark, Loreto Wood later this morning (Wednesday, February 18).
The road from Loreto Cross is currently closed in both directions and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí and Emergency services attended following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian shortly after 6.45pm on Tuesday (February 17) .
The female pedestrian, aged in her 20s, was injured and taken to nearby Cavan General Hospital for treatment for what have been described as “non life-threatening injuries”.
The male driver of the vehicle, which was abandoned at the scene, fled on foot.
A male passenger, aged in his 20s, rendered “seriously injured” according to gardaí, was removed from the scene to Cavan General Hospital in a “critical condition”.
He has since been transferred to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital where he is now receiving specialist treatment for head related injuries.
The Anglo-Celt understands that gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry in relation to the incident.
Gardaí are now appealing directly to the public. Anyone who witnessed the collision- or who may have dash-cam or mobile footage from the area between 6.30pm and 7pm- is urged to come forward.
