Gardaí following 'definite line of enquiry' on hit-and-run
Incident leaves young woman hospitalised and man fighting for his life
Gardaí are set to be following a definite line of enquiry in relation to a hit-and-run incident which left hospitalised both a female pedestrian and the vehicle's passenger.
The road from Loreto Cross was subsequently closed overnight in both directions and local diversions put in place following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian shortly after 6.45pm on Tuesday (February 17).
Gardaí and Emergency services attended the scene between Carrickane and Loreto College on the L1513 at Drumlark, Loreto Wood, where they found a female pedestrian, aged in her 20s, injured.
She was taken to nearby Cavan General Hospital for treatment for what have been described as “non life-threatening injuries”.
A male passenger, also aged in his 20s, was rendered “seriously injured” according to gardaí following the accident. He too was removed from the scene to Cavan General Hospital, but in a “critical condition” he has since been transferred to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital for specialist treatment.
The male driver of the vehicle, which was left abandoned, fled on foot. Gardaí are said to following a definite line of enquiry in relation to the incident, and are appealing directly to anyone who witnessed the collision- or may have dash-cam or mobile footage from the area between 6.30pm and 7pm- to contact them.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have since attended the scene.
“Investigations are ongoing,” a Garda spokesperson confirmed.
