Wet weather pushes across the country

Suurface water may build on roads during the heavier bursts

Cloudy skies will dominate the country on Saturday as a fresh spell of wet weather pushes in from the southwest during the morning. Rain will then spread steadily northeastwards, becoming widespread by midday and turning heavy at times.

Surface water may build on roads during the heavier bursts, making for tricky travel conditions at times. Despite the persistent cloud and rain, it will feel mild for the time of year, with afternoon highs reaching 10 or 11 degrees.

The overall picture reflects a broader unsettled pattern, with a westerly airflow steering bands of rain and showers eastwards across the country. Temperatures are set to remain above average, reinforcing the mild feel.

Into Saturday night, the rain will gradually clear southeastwards, though cloud will linger in southern and eastern areas.

Clearer spells will develop further north and west, where a few isolated showers may follow. Overnight lows will range from 6 to 9 degrees in continuing moderate to fresh southwest winds.
