Snow and sleet forecasted for this week
MET Éireann is forecasting slow and sleet in Cavan-Monaghan this week.
Forecaster Siobhán Ryan told The Anglo-Celt that the next seven days will live up to the saying: “March, the month of many weathers” as she even tried to predict conditions on St Patrick’s Day in both counties.
In this region tomorrow (Thursday), March 12, it will be a wet and windy day with high winds, and spells of rain throughout.
“The rain eases off by the evening and will turn noticeably colder after dark,” Siobhán said.
She says people in Cavan – Monaghan may see some “lying snow” locally on Friday.
“There will be some falls of sleet or snow overnight and into Friday morning.”
During the day on Friday, it will be “noticeably colder” than recent times with fairly blustery winds and a “wind chill factor”.
There will be highs of six degrees but “it will be feeling colder than that”, Siobhán warns.
“Saturday will still be a little cool given the time of year but will also bring patchy rain and drizzle but on Sunday, we will be back to the colder weather not dissimilar to Friday,” according to the Met Éireann forecaster.
When pressed on the all-important weather forecast for Tuesday, March 17, Siobhán said it was difficult to predict over a week in advance but committed to saying: “It’s still uncertain at this stage but it looks like it will probably be a cloudy enough day with dull, patchy mist in the morning.
“This will clear, and temperatures will be seasonal at nine to 12 degrees with the possibility of wetter weather later in the day.”
So, for now, the advice is wherever you are in Cavan or Monaghan on St Patrick's Day to wrap up for the morning’s parade and find shelter in a local restaurant, coffee shop or pub by the afternoon.
