Another Monaghan driver on list of speed offenders
Three drivers in three days caught speeding in Monaghan during St Patrick's Day operation
FOR the third day in a row, a driver in Monaghan has been listed among the top five speeders in the country over this bank holiday weekend.
This time, a driver has been caught driving at 115 km/h in a 80 km/h zone.
On the first day of An Garda Síochána’s St Patrick’s bank holiday weekend road safety operation on Friday, March 13, a driver on the N2 was clocked speeding at 108 km/h at Drumcarrow.
And, on Saturday, March 14, a driver was detected speeding at more than twice the legal limit at 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone at Doohamlet.
Today, gardai say they detected the third driver doing 115 km/h at Drumcaw on the N2 on Sunday.
Three people have been killed in road traffic collisions in the four days since An Garda Síochána started their St Patrick’s bank holiday weekend road safety operation on Friday.
This brings to 37 the total number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year.
During the first 96 hours of the operation, in excess of 3,450 drivers were detected speeding, over 265 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt; and 139 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (alcohol and drugs).
