Two brothers scoop film awards
Two brothers from Co. Cavan have claimed top honours at the 2026 Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year (IYFTY) Awards, in a major achievement at Fresh International Film Festival in Dublin.
Eighteen-year-old Liam Raymond, a student at Coláiste Dún an Rí, was named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year at a ceremony in Mansion House on March 26. A day earlier, his younger brother Fionn Barra Raymond (12), a pupil at Laragh 2 Muff National School, won the Junior Young Filmmaker title.
Liam’s winning film, Deep Where The Cailleach Lives, was selected from more than 1,500 entries and draws on Irish mythology, featuring a central performance by his brother. The production also earned the Screen Producers Ireland Most Sustainable Award.
Part of the festival’s 30th anniversary celebrations, the awards attracted over 300 young filmmakers nationwide, with 17 awards presented.
