Walk in memory of a ‘true gentleman’

Over £12k raised to date in online fundraiser.

A heartfelt tribute is set to take place later this week when colleagues, friends and family come together to honour the life of Gregory Cassidy - remembered by all who knew him as a “true gentleman”.

The team at Mannok Cement will host a special memorial walk on Saturday, April 4, along the scenic Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail in Fermanagh, raising vital funds for Cancer Connect NI, a cause close to the Cassidy family’s heart.

More than £12,000 has already been raised ahead of the upcoming walk in memory of the 56-year-old father of four from Fermanagh, who sadly passed away on August 1 last year following an illness.

Having joined Mannok in 1993, Gregory served as Maintenance Supervisor in the cement division and was widely respected for his professionalism, work ethic and kindness.

“Gregory was a long-serving and highly respected member of the team,” organisers of the walk say. “He took great pride in everything he did and always strived to complete every task to the highest standard.”

But beyond his work, it was Gregory’s character that left a lasting impression. “His friendly manner, thoughtfulness and determination made him a valued colleague and a trusted friend to many,” they added. “He had a natural ability to connect with people, whether through his witty sense of humour or his patient and supportive approach, especially with new staff and apprentices.”

Such was the respect held for Gregory that Mannok staff lined the grounds of St Michael’s Church in Enniskillen on the day of his funeral, and in the months since his passing, the community has rallied in his memory.

“Family meant everything to Gregory,” organisers said. “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Catherine and his children Patrick, Jonathan, Nicole and Rebecca. His loss is felt deeply, both professionally and personally.”

The memorial walk will begin at 10am, with participants asked to gather at the Cuilcagh Boardwalk carpark at 9:45am. The event will bring together Gregory’s family, friends and colleagues in a shared act of remembrance and support.

Following the walk, refreshments and a cheque presentation to Cancer Connect NI will take place at the Mannok Innovation Academy.

All funds raised will go directly to Cancer Connect NI, ensuring that Gregory’s legacy continues to make a difference in the lives of others. To donate click HERE.
