More than four thousand drivers caught speeding over Easter weekend
Over 4,000 drivers were detected speeding over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend by An Garda Síochána.
Gardaí caught one motorist driving 102km/h in a 80km/h zone on R148 at Kilmurry, Enfield, in County Meath.
An Garda Síochána conducted an extensive Roads Policing Operation, that was in place from 7am on Thursday, April 2 until 7am this morning, to ensure road safety during the bank holiday weekend.
During this period, there were three fatalities on roads, and five serious injury collisions.
Meanwhile, in excess of 175 drivers were detected for intoxicated driving. Fixed charge penalty notices were also issued for using mobile phones (over 290) and for not wearing seatbelts (over 95).
A Garda spokesperson stated: "An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to all road users to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to slow down and to always choose a speed that is appropriate to the driving conditions, to wear your seatbelt and keep your eyes always on the road.
"Drivers should continue to give driving their full attention, slow down and take extra care."
