Fuel protest continues this afternoon
Protests are continuing in Cavan town this afternoon as those attending say they are waiting to hear the result of today's fuel talks.
Blocks remain in place at the Dublin Road Roundabout, as jeeps and tractors belonging to protestors have been parked on the lanes exiting the N3 to Dublin, forcing them to take an alternative route via Cavan Town.
There is a steady flow of traffic in Cavan Town.
Emergency vehicles are being let through, and protestors are co-operating with An Garda Síochána, who have been present since the protest began this morning.
Meeting
According to RTÉ, four fuel protesters, including one of the campaign leaders John Dallon, have been refused entry to the meeting between Government ministers and some official representative bodies of farmers and hauliers.
The Celt understands protests may continue through the weekend, depending on the result of this meeting.
Speaking to the Celt earlier today, Cllr Stiofán Conaty (SF) said: "I don't blame the protestors for this escalation, I blame the government."
"It's a pity that this disruption had to happen."
Regarding today's meeting, Cllr Conaty expressed "concern" that those involved in the protest "aren't sitting in the room" for negotiations.
"I hope that the representative bodies do their job, and do represent the people out on the protest."
