Fuel protests force organisers to call off Monaghan Rally
POSTPONED Date for rescheduled event yet to be arranged
The Monaghan Stages Rally which was due to take place tomorrow (Sunday, April 12) has hit a road block due to the ongoing fuel protests.
Co. Monaghan Motor Club announced the postponement of the 2026 Ronnie Hawe Monaghan Stages Rally due to " significant logistical challenges", assuring the decision was not "taken lightly".
This is the first major sporting event to fall foul of the protests. Blockades over the last two days have forced the closure of major roads around the country, including in both Monaghan town and Cavan town.
The postponement of the rally will be regretted by many loyal rally fans in the region. Thousands of people attend the Monaghan rally annually, and with local driver Josh Moffett continuing to light up the rallying season there would have been huge local interest had tomorrow's event gone ahead.
No date has yet been fixed for the rescheduled event.
Co. Monaghan Motor Club announced the news in a social media post that reads:
"Due to significant logistical challenges caused by road blockades both nationwide and within Monaghan, affecting competitors, marshals, officials, and suppliers, the club has made the difficult decision not to proceed with the event.
"This decision has not been taken lightly, and we sincerely thank all competitors who had entered.
"We deeply regret making this announcement at such a late stage and assure you that every effort was made to find a solution.
"The club would also like to extend our thanks to all stakeholders, sponsors, and local businesses for their continued support.
"We will work closely with Motorsport Ireland and relevant authorities in an effort to reschedule the event for later on this year."
