Fuel protests continue in Cavan and Monaghan

Commuters to the county towns of Cavan and Monaghan are being advised of further traffic disruption this morning as fuel protests continue.

It comes as children prepare to return to schools after the Easter break and while protestors in Monaghan have said they will let school buses through, the position in Cavan is unclear as yet.

Cavan Monaghan gardaí have issued the following advice:

'Cavan Gardai wish to advise commuters that planned protests and a blockade on the Dublin Rd roundabout will continue tomorrow from 4.30am.

'There will be restricted movement on some access routes, while others are fully closed.

'There is no confirmation that school traffic will be permitted access.

'Please allow additional time for journeys and if possible, use an alternative route.'

In relation to Monaghan it adds:

'Protesters in Monaghan have advised that access will be permitted at the Coolshannagh roundabout (Grahams) for school traffic.'

The protests continue despite a Government press conference yesterday announcing extended measures for relief on excise duties.
