Tyrone clinically dispatch Monaghan to take Ulster title
Dalata Hotel Group Ulster U-20 Football Championship Final
Tyrone 4-19
Monaghan 0-22
Monaghan’s Ulster U-20 FC bid fell short against a clinical Tyrone side at the Athletic Grounds on Wednesday night.
Monaghan had conceded just three goals in six games en route to the provincial final, but a strong-running Tyrone breached their defence time after time during the first half, rattling the net through Shea McDermott, Aodhán Quinn and Laoch na hImeartha Conor Devlin to lead by 3-8 to 0-11.
Monaghan had started where they left off against Armagh, nailing two-pointers from Tom Doherty and Matthew Carolan and taking a 0-6 to 0-2 lead, but that early momentum quickly disappeared as Tyrone moved up through the gears. Max Maguire hit 0-5 in the second half, including two efforts from outside the arc, as Monaghan slowly closed the gap, only for Tyrone to respond with a fourth goal from sub Darragh Donaghy to ensure that they retained the Ulster U-20 title and stayed in contention for a third consecutive All-Ireland.
