Price and markets update for local farmers

Cavan Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) are hosting a prices and markets update meeting for local farmers this week.

The meeting will be addressed by Paul Smyth, one of the State’s leading dairy analysts and Eamon Carroll, Deputy President of ICMSA and an authority on animal diseases .

Cavan is a leading milk producer and has always been an influential local executive within the specialist family dairy farm organisation, so much attention will focus on Paul Smyth’s view on where milk price, currently languishing below the costs of production, is likely to go over the next two quarters.

Just as much local farmer attention will focus on Mr Carroll’s summary of the position around bTB (Bovine Tuberculosis) which has been a very serious problem in the region. It is being addressed by a new rules introduced by the Department of Agriculture and of which the ICMSA Deputy President Mr Carroll has been very sceptical.

All are welcome to attend Thursday's meeting at 8pm in the Cavan Crystal Hotel.
