MEET OUR SPONSORS - Kyte Powertech

For almost 50 years, Kyte Powertech has been part of the industrial and community landscape of County Cavan. From its manufacturing base in Cavan Town, the company has grown into Ireland’s leading manufacturer of oil-filled distribution transformers, supplying critical electrical infrastructure projects across Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Europe, while maintaining strong roots within the local community.

Established in 1977, Kyte Powertech has developed from a local manufacturing operation into an internationally recognised engineering business employing more than 500 people representing over 30 nationalities. Despite its international reach, the company has remained firmly committed to manufacturing in Ireland, with engineering, production, assembly, and testing operations continuing at its Cavan facility.

Over the decades, the factory has expanded significantly and today represents a major employer within the region. Every transformer produced on site is designed and manufactured through a combination of engineering expertise, skilled craftsmanship, advanced manufacturing processes, and rigorous testing standards. The work carried out in Cavan supports projects ranging from utility infrastructure and renewable energy developments to housing, healthcare, commercial, industrial, and critical infrastructure applications.

While the company operates within the energy sector, people remain central to the business. Many employees have spent decades with Kyte Powertech, while newer generations continue to join across engineering, manufacturing, apprenticeships, technical, and professional roles. This blend of experience and new talent has helped shape a workplace culture built around quality, commitment, and continuous improvement.

Kyte Powertech has continued to invest in its manufacturing capabilities and facilities in recent years, supporting long-term growth and positioning the company for the future demands of the energy sector. As electricity networks continue to evolve, modern manufacturing increasingly requires a balance between innovation, efficiency, sustainability, and technical expertise.

Reducing the carbon footprint

Sustainability has become an important part of that journey.

Across the business, Kyte Powertech continues to implement initiatives to reduce environmental impact and improve operational efficiency. Environmental management, energy optimisation, waste reduction, and continuous improvement remain key priorities throughout the manufacturing facility.

The company has achieved ISO 14064 verification through Carbon Reduce, recognising its commitment to measuring, managing, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside this, Kyte Powertech maintains ISO 14001 certification for environmental management and ISO 50001 certification for energy management, reinforcing the company’s focus on continuous environmental and operational improvement. Kyte Powertech has also been awarded an EcoVadis Silver Medal in recognition of its sustainability performance and responsible business practices.

Sustainability is also reflected in the transformer solutions developed and manufactured at the Cavan facility. As electrical networks continue to evolve, there is increasing demand for infrastructure that supports renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, and lower environmental impact. Kyte Powertech continues to support projects connected to utilities, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, housing developments, commercial infrastructure, and industrial facilities throughout Ireland and international markets.

For Kyte Powertech, sustainability is not viewed as a standalone initiative, but as part of the company’s broader responsibility as a modern manufacturer operating within both the energy sector and the local community, and that sense of responsibility extends well beyond the factory walls.

Over the years, Kyte Powertech has remained actively involved in supporting community initiatives, educational programmes, local organisations, and sporting activities throughout County Cavan and beyond. The company has proudly supported a range of initiatives connected to education, sport, health, and community development, while many employees are also deeply involved in local clubs, schools, charities, and volunteer organisations throughout the county.

Student scholarships

One example of this commitment is the Kyte Powertech Scholarship in Science, Engineering & Business, established to support local students pursuing third-level education. The scholarship programme reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to education, future skills development, and encouraging young people to explore careers in engineering, manufacturing, technology, and business. Supporting young people and developing future talent remain strong focuses for the company. Through engagement with schools, educational outreach initiatives, apprenticeships, and career development opportunities, Kyte Powertech continues to promote the value of Irish manufacturing and engineering while supporting the next generation entering the workforce.

This year, the company is proud to sponsor the Green Project of the Year category at The Anglo-Celt Community & Sports Awards. The category recognises initiatives focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, and improving local communities through practical action.

As Kyte Powertech approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027, the company continues to look toward the future with a strong focus on manufacturing excellence, sustainability, innovation, and community.

While the company has grown significantly over the past five decades, its connection to Cavan remains unchanged. From the factory floor to the wider community, Kyte Powertech continues to invest in people, manufacturing, and long-term sustainable growth, while proudly representing Irish engineering and manufacturing both at home and internationally.
