Cavan General dealing with outbreak of norovirus
In order to help protect patients, staff and visitors, temporary visiting restrictions are now in place across the hospital.
CAVAN General Hospital is currently dealing with an outbreak of norovirus at the hospital.
As a precaution the HSE has now placed restrictions on visiting to "help protect patients, staff and visitors".
The Emergency Department in Cavan General Hospital is also currently experiencing a high number of presentations and admissions.
In a statement, the HSE advise that visiting arrangements will be at the discretion of the Clinical Nurse Manager on each ward, "based on the clinical situation and the need to minimise the spread of infection."
"We are asking our local communities across Cavan and Monaghan to please consider all healthcare options if you or your family become unwell," the HSE statement reads.
Members of the public are reminded they have a number of treatment options depending on your illness.
These include GPs, out-of-hours GP services, pharmacies and the Monaghan Injury Unit, which is open Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm (final registration 7pm).
As always, people who do require emergency care are encouraged to attend the Emergency Department where they will be prioritised.
"Patients who attend the Emergency Department for routine and non-urgent treatment may experience long waiting times as we treat our sickest patients first," the HSE said.
The executive also thank the public for their support and understanding during this time.
