Three months in jail for coke dealer

A man found with more than 30 deal bags of cocaine worth over €2,000 has been jailed for three months.

Dylan Donegan (28) was also sentenced to a concurrent three-month term for drug driving arising from an incident at Keadue, Cavan Town, on June 27, 2025. He was further disqualified from driving for six years.

At Cavan District Court, before Judge Gerard Jones, Donegan pleaded guilty to the drugs offence, which occurred at Breffni Terrace, Cavan Town, on May 8, 2026.

Charges relating to possession of cocaine on the same occasion, as well as possession of cannabis herb and possession of cannabis for sale or supply at Cullies Graveyard on Halloween night, October 31, 2025, were struck out following a plea agreement between An Garda Síochána and defence solicitor Garrett Fortune. The court heard the cannabis in question had an estimated value of €640.

At Breffni Terrace, Donegan, of Shangarry, Ballinagh, was found with 19 individual wraps of cocaine. During a subsequent search of his person, gardaí discovered a further 14 wraps of the drug.

In relation to the driving offence, gardaí on mobile patrol observed the accused driving “erratically”. After stopping the vehicle, Donegan tested positive for driving under the influence of cocaine.

The court heard he was “already disqualified” from driving at the time, having previously received a four-year driving ban. Also, he had neither insurance nor driving licence.

Donegan, a father of two, had also received a suspended prison sentence in 2022 for drug sale and supply offences.

Mr Fortune told the court that his client’s “issue is drugs”. While accepting that Donegan had been selling drugs, the solicitor said he only supplied friends.

“He’s not a big dealer as such,” Mr Fortune said.

Judge Jones struck out the no driving licence charge, but imposed a further six-year driving ban for the no insurance offence.

A destruction order was also made for the seized drugs.
