€100K for Bailieborough centre

The Bailieborough Development Association (BDA) has welcomed the news that its application for €100,000 under the Community Climate Action Programme – Climate Action Fund 2025 has been successful. The funding will support a major upgrade of the BDA Business Centre, significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency.

“We were very concious of our carbon footprint,” said Ciaran Galligan, manager of the BDA. The enterprise hub comprises of 7,000 square foot. With the last refurbishments taking place 25 years ago, upgrades are more than overdue. “Energy costs have gone through the roof.”

He believes the success of the application reflects the important role the enterprise hub plays within the local community. “More than 20 local jobs depend on this hub and organisations such as CMETB and RehabCare regularly use the facility to provide training and support services.”

The planned works will include the replacement of outdated storage heaters with modern energy-efficient smart heaters, the installation of LED lighting throughout the building, cavity wall insulation, new insulated doors and the addition of solar PV panels to help reduce electricity costs for tenants.

The BDA expressed its appreciation to Minister of State Niamh Smyth TD, particularly Julieanne Sheridan and local councillor Niall Smith, for their support throughout the application process. Thanks were also extended to Cavan County Council Climate Action Officer Tara Smith.
