Second driver in two days clocked at over twice the speed limit
A driver in Cavan followed by one in Monaghan were caught at more than twice the legal speed limit.
ON DAY 4 of the garda bank holiday road safety operation, another driver in this region was detected driving at more than twice the legal speed limit on a regional road.
On Sunday, a motorist on the R183 at Dernaglug, Doohamlet, was clocked doing 102km/h in a 50 zone.
The day previous, a driver was caught speeding at 130 km/h in a 60 zone in Drung and on Friday
While on the first day of the operation, which, began on Thursday a driver on the 60 km/h Monaghan Road near Castleblayney was caught at 95km/h and another on the N3 at Belturbet was speeding at 121 km/h.
After four days of the June bank holiday Roads Policing Operation, there have been a total of three fatal road traffic collisions on our roads. The total number of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year is 72.
Throughout this weekend's Roads Policing Operation, Gardaí are conducting both statutory Mandatory Intoxicant Testing and regular, high-visibility policing checkpoints.
To date, a total in excess of 140 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (alcohol and drugs).
