Killeshandra Camino Calling’s fifth event.

Answer the call and join Killeshandra’s fifth Camino

The Killeshandra Camino will take place on Saturday June 20, celebrating the fifth event since it began.

Walkers will set off in stages from the Community Hall that morning from between 7-8.30am, following waymarked trails that wind through drumlins, meadows, peaceful woodlands and lakes around Killeshandra.

The route combines quiet country roads, gravel paths and forest tracks through the beautiful Kilbracken Estate, Convent grounds and Killykeen Forest Park and passes through the heart of the Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark.Whether you choose a shorter distance or decide to take on the full challenge, support vehicles will be available throughout the day to assist or pick up walkers at any point along the route.

“The length of the walk you complete is between you and the sole of your foot,” the organisers encourage.

Along the way, walkers will enjoy the warm community spirit and hospitality with refreshments, fresh fruit and snack stations along the way.

On returning to the Community Hall, participants can relax and enjoy a hearty meal and refreshments before receiving their Certificate.

The Camino is organised entirely by volunteers, with support from Cavan County Local Development, Coillte, Cavan Arts, Created in Cavan, Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, Healthy Cavan and This is Cavan. All funds raised are distributed to local voluntary groups, the very backbone of our communities.”It’s a lovely lively event but also very peaceful and soulful event for people,” Camino Committee member Eileen Gormley encouraged, while fellow member Brid Ní Dholáin added:

“You meet people from all over Ireland and further afield.”

To those thinking of joining, Eileen said: “There is no pressure, there is no race and there are volunteers along the route with support vehicles at the ready to pick you up if you want.”

Duirt Brid Ní Dholáin linn: “Is feidir le siúl mar is eol dúinn léas nua a thabhairt duit go háirthe sa tírdhreach álainn seo de chuid lochanna agus droimlín.

Tá siúl maith don intinn agus don anam.

“Is fiúntach go háirthe nuair a chloisimid siúlóirí a thaistealaíonn ó chontaetha eile ar nós Maigh Eo. Tír Eoghain, Doire agus Corcaigh I measc cuid acu a rá rud éigin mar “ Ní raibh mé riamh i gContae an Chabháin cheana”. Cuireann na focal seo i gcuimhne dúinn cén fáth go bhfuil an Camino an- speisealta agus an chúis go bhfuil Cill na Seanrátha ag fás mar cheann scríbe.”
