Free life-saving course tonight following Emy Lough incident

Everyone is welcome to attend a free life-saving skills course in Monaghan Town tonight

A potentially life-saving event organised after a teenager almost drowned in Emy Lough last month, is free and open to everyone in Monaghan Town this evening.

Carol McGirl, is founder and CEO of Pro Training, which delivers high-quality courses in CPR/AED, first aid, manual handling, and mental health, empowering individuals and organisations with vital life-saving skills.

Carol knows many of the adults and young people, including her two daughters, who helped pull a young Tyrone man to safety from Emy Lough on May 25.

While two experienced adult swimmers in the lake at the time managed to dive down for the teenager who had gone underwater, others on the scene performed CPR, rang emergency services, ran for a defibrillator, ensured access was cleared for the ambulance and even distracted very young children from the alarming scene as it developed.

And, while everyone involved is grateful the outcome was the best that could be hoped for on this occasion, the experience has left those who were there shocked and wondering ‘what if?’

Pro Training has stepped into this space by offering free CPR and AED training where anyone can learn essential life-saving skills.

The 90-minute course is running tonight, Thursday, June 11 from 6:30 to 8pm in the M-Tek1 Building on the Armagh Road, Knockaconny, Monaghan Town.

Carol, who is qualified in many emergency life-saving skills is passionate about her work and believes the recent incident at Emy Lough highlights the need for people to learn the practical skills which could save a life when every second counts.

“Whether you’re younger or older, everyone is welcome to attend,” Carol told the ’Celt, “No previous experience is needed – bring your children, parents, friends, neighbours and colleagues.”

Spaces are unlimited for tonight’s training.
