Tyson Fury has sparked controversy after wearing a “Donald Trump for prime minister” hat during a visit to the White House.

The boxer and heavyweight champion, 37, and his wife Paris were among the famous faces at the residence of the US president during a sporting event to mark America’s 250th anniversary of independence on Sunday.

Fury has shared multiple photos to Instagram from the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC) event, including a snap alongside the president and Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg – which he described as a “power pic”.

Beneath the image, which also included UFC chief Dana White, Fury commented: “Viva Trump! Don for (Prime Minister) of the UK. Would be a much better place.”

Fury is seen wearing a black suit embellished with the words Gypsy King in gold lettering, paired with a red and white cap with a Union flag and an American flag which reads: “Donald Trump for Prime Minister.”

In a separate snap, Fury and his wife Paris were seen smiling for a selfie while pointing at the political slogan on his hat – which he repeated in the caption followed by the hashtag “make Britain great again”.

Paris has also faced backlash for proudly attending the event, which coincided with President Trump’s 80th birthday.

The mother-of-seven shared a carousel of images to her own Instagram and wrote: “Only in America! Can’t believe we are at the White House walking round, then watching the fights in Donald Trump’s garden! Whirlwind few days!”

The couple’s comments have been flooded with disapproval from their millions of followers, questioning whether their support of the US president is compatible with their Christian values.

Many of their followers have also asked how the couple can support Mr Trump as members of the Irish travelling community.

The boxer previously crossed over into the political world in 2015, when he told BBC News he hoped to stand as an Independent MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale.

Fury is famed as a heavyweight champion, but has more recently starred in reality show At Home With The Furys, which has documented his exit from the ring as he tries to embrace retirement with his family.
