Monaghan Medical Practicioner on latest defaulter list
The list notes that another Monaghan man received a prison sentence in connection with the production of illicit tobacco products.
A medical practitioner from Monaghan has appeared on the latest Tax Defaulters List published by the Revenue Commissioners.
Gavin Maguire, of Leonsgarve, Carrickmacross, was named on the list following a Revenue audit which identified an under-declaration of Income Tax.
According to Revenue, the settlement reached with Mr Maguire totalled €191,303, comprising €94,938 in unpaid tax, €67,884 in interest and €28,481 in penalties. The case was categorised as a Revenue Audit Case relating to the under-declaration of Income Tax.
Revenue records show that Mr Maguire has entered into an arrangement to pay the full settlement amount.
The latest quarterly list includes individuals and businesses from across the country who were found to have committed tax and duty offences or who reached significant settlements with Revenue arising from careless or deliberate behaviour.
Separately, the list notes that another Monaghan man received a prison sentence in connection with the production of illicit tobacco products.
Maksym Kozachuk, of O'Duffy Terrace, Ballybay, Co Monaghan, was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, with six months suspended, following a prosecution by Revenue.
The case was one of 84 published court penalty cases during the three-month period ending 31 March 2026.
Revenue reported that court fines totalling €147,927.50 were imposed during the quarter, alongside a number of custodial sentences and community service orders for offences including failure to file tax returns, tobacco smuggling, illegal tobacco sales, misuse of marked mineral oil and other excise offences.
Nationally, Revenue published details of 21 settlement cases amounting to approximately €117 million during the period. The largest settlements involved Galway-based companies LPS International Plant Limited and Mpl Plant Hire Limited.
LPS International Plant Limited agreed a settlement of €106.6 million following a Revenue investigation into the under-declaration of VAT. The company, which is in liquidation, owed €46.2 million in unpaid VAT, €14.1 million in interest and €46.2 million in penalties. Revenue reported that €106.2 million remained unpaid as of 31 March 2026.
A related company, Mpl Plant Hire Limited, agreed a settlement of €4.3 million relating to the under-declaration of PAYE, PRSI, USC and VAT. The company, also in liquidation, had an unpaid balance of €4.1 million at the end of the quarter.
Revenue said the published settlements represent only a portion of its overall compliance work. During the first three months of 2026, a total of 17,891 Revenue compliance interventions were settled, generating a compliance yield of €175.6 million.
