Contract awarded for lane repairs
Monaghan County Council has sufficient funding under the Local Improvement Scheme in 2026 to complete work to seven of the 156 lanes on the current application list.
The LIS is a measure enabling the local authority to carry out repairs to private rural laneways and roads to ensure connectivity to amenities and the main road network. The local authority's initial funding allocation for this year under the scheme is €385,880.
Cllr Noel Keelan was informed at the Council’s June meeting, in response to a written question, that F.P. McCann Ltd has been awarded the contract for this year’s works, planned to commence by June/July subject to applicants having their local contribution paid and drainage and preparatory works completed.
The meeting agreed on the proposal of Cllr Richard Truell, seconded by his FG colleague Cllr Pauric Clerkin, to seek additional LIS funding.
“We are going to be years trying to get all these lanes done,” Cllr Truell remarked.
