Cavan U16s chasing All-Ireland triple
Breffni girls face historic Kildare challenge
Cavan U16s will bid to cement their status as the dominant force in underage ladies football when they face first-time finalists Kildare in the AirNav Ireland All-Ireland 'A' Championship Final in Athlone later this evening (Wednesday, July 15).
Already crowned All-Ireland champions in 2023 and 2024, the Breffni girls are chasing a remarkable third national title in almost as many years and arrive in the decider in formidable form after defeating Galway 2-16 to 2-9 in the semi-final.
The final comes just months after Cavan claimed a historic fifth successive Ulster U16 Platinum Championship title, producing a stunning comeback to overcome Tyrone in Kinawley. The achievement underlined the strength of the county's underage structures, with many members of the current panel already enjoying success at school, club and county level.
Captain Aoife Rogers will lead the side, alongside joint vice-captains Shonagh Brennan and Doireann Brady, as co-managers Doc Mulhall and Blathnaid Sheridan look to guide another talented Cavan squad to national glory.
While Cavan are bidding to complete a remarkable hat-trick of All-Ireland titles (2023, 24), their opponents are entering uncharted territory. Kildare have reached their first-ever All-Ireland U16 'A' final under manager James Costello after edging Cork by a single point, 2-14 to 3-10, in a dramatic semi.
